Expedition Leader (EXL)

Minimum Requirements

  • >24 years old
  • Vertical rescue qualification or demonstrate equivalent knowledge
  • Water rescue qualification or demonstrate equivalent knowledge
  • Proven Hard Skills/ Technical Qualifications in trekking/ bush walking, trackless navigation
  • Current Wilderness First Aid Certificate or equivalent
  • Manual driving license with 4x4 experience
  • Experience checking, maintaining and auditing vehicles and outdoor equipment.
  • Proven experience in Health and Safety law and risk management procedures.
  • Able to lift kit and equipment as some manual handling is required.
  • Proven previous experience on expeditions in leadership roles

Leaders responsibilities:

  • Conducting ongoing dynamic risk assessments.
  • Problem solving logistical issues on the ground.
  • Managing the safety and health of all expedition members.
  • Working with Earth Trails management when necessary to coordinate medical or logistical assistance for the team.
  • Maintaining and utilising all team gear, med kits, and satellite technology appropriately.
  • Conduct team briefs whilst on expedition
  • Completing an expedition report on return

Expedition Assistant (EXA)

  Minimum Requirements

  • Current Wilderness First Aid Certificate
  • Roping qualification  and/or water rescue qualification or demonstrate equivalent knowledge
  • Proven experience in logistical operations
  • Proven problem solving experience in austere environments
  • Proven previous experience on expeditions or similar
  • Qualified paramedics or nurses are highly desirable for this role and encouraged  to apply

Assistant responsibilities:

  • Conducting ongoing dynamic risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with EL on problem solving logistical issues on the ground.
  • Assist EL with managing the safety and health of all expedition members.
  • Work with Earth Trails management when necessary to coordinate medical or logistical assistance for the team.
  • Maintaining and utilising all team gear, med kits, and satellite technology in accordance with policy.
  • Manage all the expedition leader responsibilities if unforeseen circumstances render EL incapacitated.
  • Completing an expedition report on return

Expedition Medic (EXM)

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified doctor, nurse or paramedic with registration / certificate practice
  • Wilderness First Aid Certificate or Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS)
  • Manual driving license with 4x4 experience
  • Experience of checking, maintaining and auditing vehicles and outdoor equipment.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety law and risk management procedures.
  • Able to lift kit and equipment as some manual handling is required.
  • Proven experience in logistical operations
  • Proven problem solving experience in austere environments
  • Proven previous experience on expeditions or similar

Desirable:

  • Roping qualification  and/or water rescue qualification or demonstrate equivalent knowledge
  • Proven problem solving experience in austere environments

Medic responsibilities:

  • Manage the safety and health of all expedition members including pre-trek medical interviews with participants.
  • Treat and care for expedition members and maintaining medical and treatment records.
